Institute for the Advancement of Science and Technology
in the Teaching Profession (IASTTP)

On November 16, 2002, SWF held its first science workshop for junior high school science teachers conducted by Glenn Lawrence, Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Long Island University (Brooklyn Campus). The workshop, entitled the Science of Teaching Science, was attended by several teachers from various public and private schools from the surrounding areas.

Due to overwhelming enthusiasm for the workshop, SWF has decided to start a new program called the Institute for the Advancement of Science and Technology in the Teaching Profession. There are preliminary plans for holding science workshops for elementary/junior high school science teachers twice a year (one in the fall and one in the spring). Hopefully, continued support and funding will allow the Foundation to enhance and advance this much-needed program and possibly hold workshops several times during the year
