“Motivation is everything. You can do the work of two people, but
you can’t be two people. Instead, you have to inspire the next guy
down the line and get him to inspire his people.” – Lee Iacocca. “Dr.
Afiriyie and SWF has inspired and motivated me to be what I am today”.

DR. Heather Pertose
"SMALL DROPS DO YIELD MIGHTY OCEANS"
My name is Heather Pertose and I am an Alumna of both Nazareth Regional
High School and St. John's University. I hold both a Baccalaureate and a
Doctoral Degree in Pharmacy. It was a great privilege to be a Woode Scholar
and now it is a great honor to be a Board Member. I am grateful to be given
the opportunity to reciprocate the generous gift that were once given to
me. The gift I speak of is not just financial, but one of support and success.
I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Dr. Afiriyie and the distinguished
Board Members for helping me make my dreams come true.

"Unlike most of the Sarah Woode Scholars, I learned about the inner workings of SWF as a long-time staff member. The effort and organization that goes into the running the Foundation is astounding. This increased my appreciation of the Foundation's support immensely. My time at SWF has contributed to my maturation. I didn't just learn about science, I learned about life. Without SWF, the last seven years of my life could not have been so successful - I have graduated from high school, college, and now I am currently in graduate school pursuing a Ph.D. in Genetics. SWF has been an invaluable part of my life and I will continue to support them through my professional endeavors. "

(Nazareth Class of 1998and one of SWF first scholars). As one of the first students to receive support from the Sarah Woode Foundation, I am so glad to see the progress that has been made in this great organization. I never thought my goal of working towards a PhD in Biochemistry/Cell Biology would come to fruition, but the Woode Foundation always gave me the support and resources I needed to work on my goals. With the Foundation's help, not only have I become an intelligent, confident scientist, I have learned the importance of helping, supporting, and mentoring others and I know that the foundation is continuing to do wonders for its students...

How wonderful it is for someone to be given the opportunity to live his/her dreams. I consider myself very fortunate. I am currently a senior at the City University of New York, City College, enrolled in the Chemical Engineering Program. Thanks to the Board of Trustees of Sarah Woode Foundation, Inc. (SWF) and its president Dr. Harold Afiriyie for believing in me and supporting me at that critical time when I had no means of continuing my education beyond the second year. I am pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering with the hopes of taking my education to the graduate level. I am dedicated to use the “small drops” given to me to “yield mighty oceans”. Thanks to Sarah Woode Foundation for making dreams come through.
